Riaanvn: linking to AMD site directly or to Akamai mirror URL?

New page

== linking to AMD site directly or to Akamai mirror URL? ==

The links at http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-radeon.html point to Akamai URLs, e.g.

https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/6724/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_8.42.3-inst.html

instead of the direct AMD / ATI URL, e.g.
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_8.42.3.html .
Question - why does the Wiki use the direct URLs? E.g. I assume there is a good reason AMD does this, and downloading via the Akamai mirror URL should be faster.
