This page needs updating. Currently, running the installer program works well.

Reported problems with Slackware 12.0, solvable hand-compiling a new kernel image & modules.

Ensure that drm is not loaded, blacklist it. I think it's also better to blacklist the open source driver. The ATI drivers seem to have their own direct rendering manager.

With the above you normally do not have to reboot the computer after install, just restart the X.
