219.88.217.149: /* Installation with ATI installer */

ATI drivers are included in commercial release. Following instructions concern installation on the free release.

== Installation with ATI installer ==

First of all, you have to install kernel sources :

$ su
# urpmi kernel-source

Then, download ati installer and launch it :

# chmod +x ati-driver-installer-X.X.X.run
# ./ati-driver-installer-X.X.X.run

Follow the instructions.

Slightly more information to be found here:

"3D Acceleration for ATI cards (works for SuSE, Mandriva and Debian)" at

http://linux.coconia.net/general/ati.htm
http://m.domaindlx.com/LinuxHelp/ati/ati.htm (mirror)

== Installation with Mandriva 2006 PLF Packages ==

Note: Thats are not Official Mandriva fglrx RPMS, it works perfekt on my machine.

First you must add PLF non-free repository. Use [http://easyurpmi.zarb.org easyurpmi] for example.

Then, install the driver with this command.

# urpmi ati-xorg dkms-ati

You can now choose fglrx driver for your card with the Mandriva drakx11 tool

# drakx11

== Configuration ==

Use '''aticonfig'''. Consult help with '''aticonfig -h'''.

Reboot.

== Installation ==

Method 1
* Install 'kernel-source' and C++ compiler ('gcc') and tools selection in yast.
* Get the rpm that matches the SuSE X server on your system (XFree86 4.3 or X.Org 6.8) instead of the ATI driver installer from [http://www.ati.com]
* init 3
* install the driver package (e.g. rpm -Uvh fglrx64_6_8_0-8.24.8-1.x86_64.rpm)
* configure your X server using fglrxconfig

note: this is not the way described in the READMEs, but it's the way that worked best for me and others. Especially if sax and/or your X server crash when using the ATI driver installer's package (due to missing symbols in fglrx_drv.o)
